Whenever one talks about the weaponization of law in Zimbabwe, one name comes to mind, Job “Wiwa” Sikhala.
From the so called First republic to the Second republic, Wiwa has come to regard the prison cells of Chikurubi maximum prison as his second home. The flaws of an unjust judicial system are all laid bare. In a state of sloganeering violence against people who dare challenge the government, Job Sikhala has been arrested on charges trumped up charges of inciting violence over sixty times.
All these charges never held water, nor was he convicted. So why is Wiwa in prison? For calling a spade for spade, telling people not to turn the other cheek. He called for Moreblessing Ali’s justice, thereafter an esteemed member of parliament has been treated like a convict, a clear contradiction of presumed innocent until proven guilty.
One wonders why Sikhala is still in remand, with more than 60 arrests and charges and yet he has never attempted to escape. A bludgeoning example is what Job Sikhala reflects towards an unfair and partial justice system whose patriotism is based on being called comrade and a war veteran.
A petition was drawn up by Tsitsi Dangarembga with notable signatories such as Dr Ibbo Mandaza, Dr Frances Lovemore, Strive Masiwa, and the government remains silent.
Is the Justice system now a political party? The wig of the judges has now become a mockery as the Judge and the person when the wig comes off have become one.
